Healing at the Shavuot

Good afternoon!

Today's blog highlights a recently published article that truly hits home in light of the recent Manchester attack. Irene Lancaster compassionately writes, "Shavuot is the festival which marks the giving of the Torah (613 commandments) to the Jewish people. The festival is a celebration of women. The Torah itself is regarded as female in Jewish thought. The Torah is tough yet compassionate. And because of this the Torah was given to women first."

Lancaster writes this article as a reflection of the recent Manchester attack at an event that that was occupied predominately by women and children. Lancaster also goes on to discuss one of Judaism's ultimate pilgrim, Ruth, and how her values can be looked up to today in spite of the current world we live in.
